One beast at the gate: the rule that changes everything

By Chamophélie, special correspondent · 1 min read

The crowd at the finish. Only one beast of yours left to watch.

No more stables lining up three chamos and sweeping the board. From now on, an owner enters a single beast per race. The other four runners are rivals. And if yours wins, the house adds a bonus.

The rulebook used to fit in one sentence, and that sentence has just been rewritten. You enter one chamo per race. One. The rest of the field belongs to somebody else.

It changes the nature of the game. Before, a shrewd punter could cover half the finish line with his own animals. Today he picks his card, and he lives with it.

The stable bonus

To sweeten the pill, the boss threw in a bonus: if your beast crosses the line first, you collect on top of your betting winnings. He announced it in the tone of a benefactor. I checked: it comes out of everyone else's stakes.

One direct consequence — fatigue matters again. You can no longer hide a worn-out beast behind two others.
