Simone, Mécanix, and the great Chamoteurs swap

By Chamophélie, special correspondent · 1 min read

Simone, second lane. She had no comment.

In the reshuffling of names, one case is worth dwelling on: over at the Chamoteurs, two runners swapped identities. It is not a clerical slip. It is a correction.

Here is the matter. The runner in second place was called Mécanix. She is now called Simone. And the name Mécanix slid one notch down, onto runner number three, who until then answered to Turbo Tino.

One assumes a filing blunder. It is not.

The reason is in the box

The second Chamoteur is a female. She always was; nobody had bothered to check before sticking a workshop name on her. The new one salutes a pioneer of the wheel — one of those who raced back when ladies were still being told the engine was a man's business.

As for Mécanix, he hasn't vanished: he simply found the beast he suited better. The third lane has grease under its hooves.

"I don't care, as long as they run. But if it makes them happy."
— Al Pacciamo, whose enthusiasm remains measured

Further down the grid, Miss Chrono has become Chumacher, and Sir Vroom — the gang's boss — now runs under the name Lewis Chamilton. The Chamoteurs own it: here, you are named after those who won.
