The Chamoiselles have a new blow-dry, and the odds noticed

By Chamophélie, special correspondent · 1 min read

The campus, Tuesday. Nobody is laughing.

Three wins in a fortnight. The campus locker room swears it isn't the hair. The campus locker room is lying.

I spent a full day in the campus corridors and came out with two certainties: they are far faster than they were a month ago, and nobody will tell me why.

The rumour — and they live on rumours — mentions an imported product, applied the night before a race, which supposedly makes the coat "slipperier in the air". The rulebook says nothing about it. The rulebook never says anything.

What the odds say

What the rulebook won't say, the bookmakers already know. The Chamoiselles' odds have halved in ten days. When a bookmaker shortens a price, it isn't out of affection.
